President Murmu felicitates World Cup–winning Indian womens team at Rashtrapati Bhavan
President Droupadi Murmu felicitated the Indian women's cricket team on Thursday for their historic ODI World Cup 2025 triumph, lauding their unity, determination, and role in inspiring young girls.
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu felicitated the Indian women's team for their historic World Cup triumph in Navi Mumbai on November 2. The Women in Blue received a warm reception from the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. She was presented with a jersey signed by the entire Indian squad.
India clinched their maiden ICC trophy in women's cricket, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the ODI World Cup final. President Murmu praised the team on its historic achievement, saying that the players had not only created history but also become role models for the younger generation.
"Members of the Indian Women Cricket team, winner of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President congratulated the team and said that they have created history and have become role models for younger generation," the official handle of the President posted on X with pictures of the meeting.
"She said that this team reflects India. They represent different regions, different social backgrounds, different circumstances but they are one Team — India. Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur also presented the World Cup trophy to the President and a signed jersey.

In a statement released by the Press Information Bureau, the President said that the team represent different regions, different social backgrounds, and different circumstances, but they are one Team India.
The President further added that the team has strengthened the belief of all Indians in their capability by beating the seven-time world champion Australian team in the semifinal.
"The younger generation, especially girls, will be inspired to move ahead in life. She expressed confidence that with the same qualities with which they have written history, they will keep Indian cricket at the top in future as well," read the PIB release quoting Murmu.
The President also noted the ups and downs of hope and despair that the team experienced during the Women's ODI World Cup after three consecutive defeats in the league stage. She added that sometimes the player would have even lost sleep, but they overcame all the challenges.
"She noted that after the victory over New Zealand, people strongly believed that in spite of the ups and downs in the match, our daughters would prevail," the release added.
Earlier, the team had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.
