New Delhi: India's ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is likely to return to action in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. According to a Times of India report, the middle-order batter is currently training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence and will remain there till December 30.

He will then join Mumbai's squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Jaipur on January 2. If all goes well, Iyer will play two domestic matches on January 3 and 6 before joining the national side for the ODI series against New Zealand on January 11 in Vadodara.

"We are hearing positive developments around Shreyas. He is very likely to play two games for Mumbai on January 3 and January 6. The final schedule will depend on clearance from CoE, but signs are positive for playing those games in Jaipur," a Mumbai Cricket Association official told The Times of India.

Iyer suffered a blunt abdominal injury during the Australia tour and missed the ODI series against South Africa and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai. In his absence, Ruturaj Gaikwad was included in the team and scored a hundred against South Africa.

Jaiswal set to join Mumbai's VHT squad

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal all set to join Mumbai's squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Goa on Wednesday, reports Sportstar. He missed the first two matches of the tournament as he was recovering from acute gastroenteritis.

"Jaiswal is absolutely fine now, and his presence will be a huge boost for Mumbai,” a team source told Sportstar.

Jaiswal was rushed to a hospital in Pune after Mumbai’s last Super League match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The opener complained of stomach cramps, and Medical reports later revealed that it was a case of acute gastroenteritis.

He was advised to rest for a week before resuming training. Rohit Sharma was available for the first two games of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, due to which the team management did not rush Jaiswal into the side.
