Meanwhile, Iyer continues to recover in a Sydney hospital after sustaining a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed in a statement that the batter suffered a laceration to his spleen with internal bleeding after attempting a difficult running catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana's bowling.

"His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery," the BCCI statement said.

Suryakumar Yadav spoke with the media ahead of the T20I series opener against Australia and said that when they saw it from outside, it looked normal, but later they were informed that Iyer's condition was serious and he needed immediate attention. The T20I captain further added that they spoke with him, and he talked normally.

"God is on his side. He is recovering really well, doctors are supporting him, and the BCCI is in full support. He will recover soon, and then we'll take him home with us," Suryakumar added.

BCCI to fly Shreyas Iyer's sister to Sydney

According to the Times of India report, the BCCI is making special arrangements for Iyer's sister, Shresta, to fly to Sydney and join the batter to help him recover quickly.

Speaking to the National Daily, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the board has done its best to assist Shreyas, and the BCCI doctor is totally focused on Iyer’s treatment and recovery in Sydney. He further added that Iyer has been admitted to the best hospital in Sydney.
