Uganda ready to replace Pakistan as T20 World Cup pullout drama nears its end
Uganda Cricket Association addressed the ICC in a witty social media post and confirmed their availability for the T20 World Cup in case the spot falls vacant after Pakistan's potential withdrawal.
Uganda joined the trolling bandwagon with a cheeky social media post on Pakistan's T20 World Cup participation theatrics, offering to replace the Asian country in case of a pullout. After Iceland Cricket, Uganda Cricket Association becomes the latest associate nation to troll Pakistan on social media over the drama surrounding their participation in the marquee event starting in India and Sri Lanka on February 07.
Pakistan has threatened to pull out of the T20 World Cup in solidarity with Bangladesh, who were removed from the tournament after failing to confirm their participation for their league matches in India.
PCB wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) expressing their displeasure over the global body's handling of the issue, and later set a deadline for themselves to announce their decision on playing the mega-event.
However, PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi's threats seem to be hollow as reports have emerged that the Pakistan cricket team's tickets have been booked and the contingent is set to fly to Colombo on Monday.
Pouncing on the opportunity, Uganda Cricket addressed the ICC in a social media post and confirmed their availability for the marquee event in case the spot falls vacant after Pakistan's potential withdrawal.
The post read:
"Dear @ICC,
If a T20 World Cup seat opens, Uganda is ready - packed and padded.
Passports warm (not ice). No bakers leaving ovens or ships U-turning.
Heat, noise, pressure? We’ll bring the bold kit.
Yours, Ready when you are"
Uganda responds after Iceland Cricket's hilarious post
Uganda shared a post after Iceland Cricket announced their unavailability to replace Pakistan in the T20 World Cup via a cheeky statement.
Uganda made a maiden appearance in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and the USA.
Despite all their matches being scheduled in Sri Lanka under the hybrid model agreement, Pakistan remain undecided over their participation in the T20 World Cup. PCB chairman Naqvi is set to confirm a final decision on the team's participation today (Friday).
Pakistan's drama began when Bangladesh were booted out over absurd claims of security concerns in India and was replaced by Scotland.
