West Indies refuse Pakistans proposal to change schedule of limited-overs series - Report
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has denies the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) proposal to change the schedule of the white-ball tour.
New Delhi: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has refused the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) proposal to change the schedule of the white-ball tour in the USA and the Caribbean. Both teams are scheduled to play three T20Is and three ODI matches in the US and the Caribbean from August 1 to 12.
The Pakistan board has requested to change all three ODI games into T20Is, but CWI is keen to play the 50-over matches after the poor performances in the format. The Men in Maroon also failed to qualify for the last ODI World Cup in 2023 in India.
According to a PTI report, a well-informed PCB source said that the West Indies board officials have conveyed the message to the PCB CEO Sumair Ahmed, during the ICC meeting in Singapore, that they would not change the schedule.
"The West Indies board officials told the PCB clearly in Singapore there would be no changes to the itinerary or format for the series and it was up to the PCB to decide if they wanted to tour or not," the PCB source said as quoted by PTI.
The Pakistan cricket team is focused on preparing for the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup after losing against India and the USA in the group stage.
CWI begins ticket sales for Pakistan series
The Cricket West Indies has already started ticket sales for the T20I matches in Florida and the ODI games in Trinidad. The source said that it was now up to the Pakistan board to take the call on the tour as they are yet to announce the team for the white-ball series.
As per the original schedule, the three T20Is are set to be played on August 1, 2 and 4 at Lauderhill in Florida, followed by the three ODI matches in Tarouba, Trinidad, on August 8, 10 and 12.
