Ekta, Soman, and Praveen's medals register India's best-ever campaign in World Para Athletics Championships 2025

With Ekta, Soman, and Praveen winning medals on the penultimate day of the World Para Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, India registered their best-ever campaign in the tournament with 18 medals, and a day is left in the ongoing edition of the World Para Athletics Championships.

New Delhi: India have won 18 medals in the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, surpassing their best-ever campaign at the tournament on the penultimate day. Ekta Bhyan concluded day 7 with a silver medal in the F51 Club Throw event. Earlier, Ekta's medal, Praveen Kumar, won a bronze medal in the High Jump T64 and Soman Rana was victorious in the men's shot put F57 with a silver medal.

India won three medals on day 7 of the tournament. Ekta threw her season's best 19.80 throw to finish second in the event. She was also the defending champion but fell short of winning back-to-back gold medals. Ekta didn't make a single foul in the event and made her best throw in the end.

Soman won his maiden World Para Athletics Championships medal in the shot put F57. He produced a 14.69m throw to finish second in the event. The Islamic Republic of Iran's Yasin Khosravi secured the gold medal with a world record of 16.60m throw.

Whereas Praveen won the bronze medal in the men's high jump T64 as he made his season-best performance with a clearance of 2.00m. Uzbekistan's Temurbek Giyazov won the gold medal with a 2.03 jump. Praveen's personal best came at the Paris Paralympics 2024 with 2.08m.

India at sixth place in medal tally

India added three medals, including two silver and a bronze, to take their tally to 18—six gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals. India are currently tied with Colombia in medal tally, but Colombia have more silver medals compared to India.

India can finish the campaign in the top 3, as currently the third-ranked nation, Poland, won just 15 medals, but out of 15, they won eight gold medals, and India have six gold. If the Indian contingent manages to win a few gold medals on the final day of the tournament, then they can manage to finish in third position.

Brazil is leading the tally with 38 medals, including 12 gold medals. Whereas, China are in the second spot with 41 medals, including nine gold medals.
