Arsenal defender William Saliba agrees new five-year deal - Report
According to a report, defender William Saliba has agreed a new five-year contract with the club until 2030.
New Delhi: Defender William Saliba has agreed a new five-year contract with Arsenal. He is expected to sign a new deal in the coming days, reports The Athletic.
The same website has reported in May that the Gunners had opened contract talks with Saliba in the hope of retaining him beyond June 2027, when his existing deal expires.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League during his time at the club, featuring in all 38 matches in the 2023/24 campaign and missing just three games last season.
He has entered the last two years of his contract but is set to commit to the Arsenal until June 2030. The France international will join fellow defender Gabriel Magalhaes and academy players Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly in committing to new Arsenal contracts in 2025.
Saliba has been contracted with the Gunners since the summer of 2019 but had to wait three years until his competitive debut at the start of the 2022/23 season. The defender signed for Arsenal from Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne in 2019, and spent consecutive seasons on loan back in the French league with Nice and Marseille.
Since then, he has made 139 appearances in all competitions for the club, netting seven goals. He has played a crucial role in helping the Gunners to maintain their strongest defensive record in the Premier League in the last two seasons. He featured in 51 matches for Arsenal last season, as Mikel Arteta’s side finished second in the Premier League for the third consecutive season and also reached the semi-final of the Champions League.
Arsenal's 2025-26 campaign so far
Arsenal started their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford. After that, the Gunners thrashed Leeds United 5-0 at the Emirates. Mikel Arteta's side lost 1-0 against Liverpool at Anfield, but made a great comeback to beat Nottingham Forest 3-0. In the last week, they played a 1-1 draw against Manchester City, and are currently placed in the second position in the Premier League. The Gunners also defeated Athletic Club 2-0 in their opening match of the Champions League.
