New Delhi: France midfielder Grace Geyoro has set the record for the most expensive transfer in women's football after her deadline day move to London City Lionesses. Geyoro joined the Women's Super League (WSL) newcomers from Paris Saint-Germain for a record fee of around 1.4 million pounds ($1.88 million), as per reports in Sky Sports and the BBC.

Geyoro's transfer fee breaks the previous world record fee of $1.5 million paid by the Orlando Pride to sign Mexico star Lizbeth Ovalle from Tigres UANL last month.

However, London City and PSG Feminines are yet to confirm the exact fee.

2025 has become the year of world record moves in women's football, with Geyoro's move becoming the fourth world record deal in women's football, after U.S. defender Naomi Girma (San Diego Wave to Chelsea for $1.1 million in January) and Canada striker Olivia Smith (Liverpool to Arsenal for $1.3 million in July).

After being promoted to the top tier of women's club football in England, London City Lionesses have been on a spending spree. Geyoro, 28, is their 16th permanent signing of the summer, funded by American owner Michele Kang, who also owns Lyon - PSG's biggest rival in the French league - and the Washington Spirit. Kang's estimated worth by Forbes to be worth $1.2 billion.

Geyoro another high-profile signing for London City

Geyoro, capped 103 times by France, is an experienced international footballer. He has scored 22 goals for her country and played in two World Cups, two European Championships and the 2024 Olympics.

Geyoro is among London City's several high-profile signings this summer including including Jana Fernandez from Barcelona, Danielle van de Donk from Lyon, ex-Manchester United players Katie Zelem and Nikita Parris.

The Frenchwoman was London City's second signing in the final hours of the transfer window after they also activated Lucia Corrales' release clause by paying £430,000 to sign the Spanish international from Barcelona.

The 2025-26 WSL season will kick off on Friday. London City will open their campaign against Arsenal on Saturday.
