New Delhi: Liverpool's new signing Jeremie Frimpong has been ruled out of action due to a hamstring injury until after the international break. The right-back limped off during the club's Premier League opener against Bournemouth.

He will miss crucial league matches against Newcastle United at St James' Park on Monday and against Arsenal at Anfield on the next Sunday. The first international break of the 2025-26 season is from 1-9 September, and the Premier League will be back on the weekend of September 13-14 when Liverpool face Burnley at Turf Moor on the Sunday.

Firmpong joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5m in May and replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold, who signed for Real Madrid. He played 190 games, scoring 30 goals and contributing 44 assists. He also played a crucial role in helping Leverkusen to their historic 2023-24 campaign which saw them win both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.

'We expect to have him back after the international break': Arne Slot

Liverpool manager Arne Slot talked about his injury and said that they felt that the Netherlands international was struggling in the match and he has a positive injury record.

Slot said in his pre-match news conference on Thursday that Frimpong's substitution had nothing to do with how he played, but the medical staff felt he had an issue with his hamstring, so they decided to take him off and the right-back will back after international break.

"Jeremie [Frimpong] has a very positive injury record. Conor [Bradley] was out once or twice last season. These things happen. At the moment, we only have two injuries, but unfortunately it is two in the same position. The good thing is we have other players that can play there. Wataru Endo played there, Dominik Szoboszlai also", Slot added.
