New Delhi: Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo is uncertain about his future at the club after a breakdown in the relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis. He led Forest to a place in European competition for the first time since 1995-96.

He also signed a new three-year contract in June, but his position as manager of the club is in jeopardy. According to a few media reports, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is set to replace him.

The crack in Nuno's relationship with the club owner started to show last week, when he  criticised Forest's summer transfer strategy, saying the club had wasted a good chance and he was concerned for the 2025-26 season.

The Reds have spent almost £100 million ($134m) in signing James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Douglas Luiz. It is thought that Nuno’s comments have escalated tensions behind the scenes.

His remarks came before the high-voltage clash against Crystal Palace. Forest profited from Palace’s demotion to the Conference League and will take their place in the Europa League.

'Where there's smoke, there's fire'

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Nuno said that they know each other very well and have been in the same industry for a while now. He further added that he knows how things work in football, but he's here to do his job.

"I understand, because I'm worried. I'm the first one to be worried. I'm the first one to be concerned. I always had a very good relationship with the owner; last season was very, very, very close. This season, not so well. No, it's not close," Nuno said.

The Forest manager further added that he always believed that his opinion is valid because his concern is the squad and the season that they have ahead of them, but their relations have changed.

"The reality is that is not what it used to be. What it used to be was a good, respectful relationship, but was more based on trust and sharing opinions, and now it's not so good," he added.
