PSG suffer double injury blow as Dembele and Doue ruled out for weeks

New Delhi: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have confirmed that forward Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out for around six weeks with a serious right hamstring injury, and Desire Doue suffered a strain in his right calf and will be out of action for around four weeks.

Both players picked up their respective injuries during France’s 2-0 victory against Ukraine on Friday, with Dembele replacing his injured PSG teammate at the start of the second half. Ten minutes before the end of the match, the forward pulled up his hamstring and was replaced by Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike. Dembele is likely to miss PSG's Champions League match against 2025 semi-finalists Barcelona on October 1, with Doue also in doubt.

PSG confirmed the injuries to two of their key players during the international break in a statement: "After leaving the pitch injured during the match between Ukraine and France on Friday, Ousmane Dembélé has suffered a serious injury to his right hamstring. He is expected to be unavailable for around six weeks. Also picking up an injury during the encounter, Désiré Doué suffered a strain in his right calf and will be out for around four weeks,".

PSG's upcoming fixtures

PSG will face Lens on September 14 after the international break, after that they will take on Marseille on September 21, and Auxerre on September 27. The defending Champions League winners will start their campaign at home against Atalanta on September 17 before the October Barcelona fixture.

Dembele has netted two goals and provided an assist in PSG’s first three games of the Ligue 1 season. He also provided an assist in the Super Cup final win against Tottenham Hotspur. The forward scored 35 goals and 16 assists in 53 games last season and helped PSG to lift the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de France, the Trophee des Champions, and the Champions League. They also reached in the final of the Club World Cup but lost 3-0 against Chelsea.

Doue netted 16 goals and 16 assists in his 61 appearances last season, including two goals and an assist in the Champions League final. Dembele was named as a nominee for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, and the winners will be announced in Paris on September 22.
