New Delhi: To ensure the "safe, seamless and historically successful" organisation of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, U.S. President Donald Trump has established a task force for the marquee event, which is returning to American soil after more than three decades.

The 2028 Games will be the first Olympics to be held in the US since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, but the Summer Olympics returns to America for the first time since the Atlanta Games in 1996.

"The LA Olympics is shaping up to be a wonderful moment for America. It is going to be incredible. It is so exciting," Trump said as he signed an executive order at the White House establishing the task force.

The text of the order or details about the task force's work were not immediately released by the White House.

During the announcement, Trump heaped praise on Gene Sykes, chair of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee board of directors, for the USOPC's decision to ban transgender women from competing in women's sports.

"The United States will not let men steal trophies from women at the 2028 Olympics," Trump said.

At his eccentric best, Trump questioned the attendees on their drab response when he praised Sykes for it. In response, he received applause from some members of the audience.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt quoted Trump, who "considers it a great honour to oversee this global sporting spectacle", in a statement, which also mentioned the president's liking for sports.

LA28 task force to ensure smooth functioning at Summer Games

According to LA28 president and chair Casey Wasserman, the task force "marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028".

Meanwhile, the Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said during a briefing that the task force would "coordinate across federal, state and local agencies to ensure streamlined visa processes, robust security and efficient transportation".

Members of the task force include Vice President J.D. Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, among several other notable figures.

Trump also expressed his pleasure at hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup along with Canada and Mexico.

In preparation for the global football showpiece, the governments of all three countries discussed various issues, including readiness for potential security threats ahead of the World Cup.
