New Delhi: Manchester United lost against fourth division club Grimsby Town on penalties and suffered a humiliating exit from the Carabao Cup. Ruben Amorim’s team was on the cusp of losing two more points in the Premier League clash against newly-promoted Burnley, but a stoppage-time penalty from Bruno Fernandes led to a relieving victory for both the club and the coach.

The Red Devils took a lead in the game twice, but on both occasions, Burnley levelled the game with two impressive goals. After a poor performance against Grimsby, Andre Onana was replaced by Altay Bayindir in the starting XI, and coach Amorim admitted the goalkeeper job, especially at Man United, is a lot more difficult with all the criticism.

After the 3-2 victory against Burnley, the head coach defended his goalkeepers, saying that they are also humans, and at Manchester United, everything is big news. He further added that everybody is talking about the goalkeeper, and when he changes the goalkeeper, these situations happen.

"It’s hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment. If you look at the goal, we can defend better the box. We suffered a similar goal against Fulham because we don’t do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side,” he said after the game," Amorim said.

Manchester United are currently pursuing two deals to ensure a goalkeeper arrives before the summer transfer window closes. According to reports, the Red Devils are looking to sign Royal Antwerp’s highly regarded 23-year-old Senne Lammen and Aston Villa's Emiliano Martínez.

'Everybody has to improve'

Bayindir conceded two goals against Burnley and was at fault for Jaidon Anthony’s equaliser. Amorim said that these things don't have anything to do with the goalkeeper.

"All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper. Players are struggling a little bit with all the things that are happening around the club, that is normal. It’s not just the goalkeepers; everybody has to improve," added Amorim.

Manchester United will next take on arch-rivals Manchester City on September 14 at the Etihad Stadium.
