Ishan Kishan is an explosive left-handed wicketkeeper-batter who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kishan is known for aggressive batting and his ability to take on the bowlers from the start. Ishan has been a consistent player for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

He made his IPL debut in 2016 for the Gujarat Lions after they picked him for Rs 35 lakh in the auction. He played very few matches in the first two seasons but showed  some glimpses of explosive batting. Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 6.2 Crore in the 2018 IPL auction, and he scored 275 runs in the 14 matches in his first season for the franchise.

His ability to bat at different positions made him a valuable player in the league. His breakthrough season came in 2020, when he scored 516 runs in 14 IPL matches at an average of 57.33 and was the highest run scorer for the franchise. His best performance in that season came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when he amassed 99 runs. 

He played a crucial role in MI’s campaign for record-breaking fifth IPL title. In the 2021 season, Ishan had a poor start, but he finished strongly with two explosive knocks, including an 84 runs off 32 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. MI released him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction but bought him back for Rs 15.25 Crore, making him the most expensive player of the auction.

The wicket-keeper batter struggled to perform consistently in the 2022 season but still managed to score 418 runs at an average of 32.15 in 14 matches. In 2023, he scored 454 runs in 16 matches at an average of 30.27. He was released by MI ahead of the 2025 mega-auction and was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 11.25 crore. He amassed 354 runs in 14 matches at an average of 35.30.

Ishan Kishan was bought by the Gujarat Lions for Rs 35 lakh in 2016, and he remained with the franchise for the following season. Ishan Kishan's best IPL season came in 2020 when he amassed 516 runs in 14 matches for MI at a strike rate of 145.76 and at a brilliant average of 57.33. He smashed four stunning half-centuries and 30 maximums in that season which were  the most by any batter in that season. He also played a key role in MI's title-winning campaign.
