Ravinder Singh clinches 50m pistol gold at ISSF World Championships

India's Ravinder Singh shot a brilliant score of 564 points to capture the gold medal in the men's 50m pistol event at the ISSF World Championships.

New Delhi: Ravindra Singh made a triumphant start for India at the ISSF World Championships (Pistol/Rifle) in Cairo as he bagged the gold medal in the 50m free pistol event on Saturday. His stellar performance also helped India secure a team silver, making a strong opening day for the contingent.

The veteran Indian shooter produced one of the finest performances of his career, shooting an impressive 569 in a highly competitive field of 47 shooters. The event showcased Ravindra's consistency and calm under pressure.

South Korea's Kim Cheongyoung claimed the silver with 556 while Anton Aristarkhov, competing as a neutral athlete, took the bronze with an identical score of 556. This marked the biggest milestone in the career of the 29-year-old Havildar from Bishnah town in Jammu & Kashmir.

After claiming the bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships in Baku, he has been steadily working his way back into the national spotlight. He has been in and out of the Indian squad since 2019 and a victory in Cairo is a testament to his perseverance and sharp focus.

Though Ravinder's journey wasn't all smooth. He began with a modest 93 in the opening series but quickly found his rhythm and from there on he bounced back strongly with scores of 98, 94, 95, 93 and 96 in the subsequent rounds, showcasing remarkable composure and control to finish with a total of 569.

Team efforts earn India silver

India's success didn't stop at the individual podium. The trio of Ravinder Singh, Kamaljeet and Yogesh Kumar combined to clinch the team silver with a total of 1646 points. South Korea narrowly edged ahead to claim the team gold with 1648 while Ukraine finished third with 1644. With a total of 11 teams in contention, India’s strong showing reaffirmed the depth and promise in its shooting setup.
