‘Can’t be ruled out’: Greenland PM urges authorities to prepare for war amid Trump’s threats

Nuuv: Amid continuing threat by US President Donald Trump to takeover Greenland, Denmark’s autonomous territory’s PM Jens-Frederik Nielsen has asked officials to prepare for the possible military invasion.

He added that the Arctic island must be prepared even as the invasion seemed highly unlikely. “It’s not likely there will be a military conflict, but it can’t be ruled out,” he prime minister said at a press conference in Nuuk.

Trump repeatedly threatened to invade Greenland

In recent times, Trump has repeatedly threatened to invade Greenland for security reasons. He had recently shred an airtificial intelligence generated image of himself putting an US flag in the island. Recently, thousands of protesters across Denmark put out rallies in support of Greenland.

Former Greenland prime minister Mute B Egede has also said that the territory was facing huge pressure and must to be ready for any outcome. “Greenland is under a lot of pressure,” Bloomberg quoted him as saying, “we need to be ready for all scenarios,” he added.

NATO countries voice support for Greenland

Recently, a small group of officials from Denmark and other NATO countries visited the island. While all countries voiced their support for Greenland, Denmark’s Joint Arctic Command is also likely to expand military exercises.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump took an even tone during a press conference to mark his firstr in office in his second term. “I think that we will work something out where NATO is going to be very happy and where we're going to be very happy,” Trump said when asked about Greenland.
