‘Even husbands don’t give Rs 100’: Maharashtra minister tells Ladki Bahin beneficiaries to vote for CM Fadnavis

Maharashtra rural development minister and BJP leader Jaykumar Gore told the crowd that many women do not receive even small amounts of money from their husbands, yet the scheme provides them with a regular payment of Rs 1,500. He warned that the benefit might stop if Fadnavis's government is voted out, adding that they should remember who ensured the money reached their bank accounts.

Mumbai: Maharashtra rural development minister and BJP leader Jaykumar Gore has appealed to women enrolled in the state’s Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme to support chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the coming civic elections. Speaking at a campaign event in Solapur district on Saturday, Gore said the monthly assistance they receive under the programme should guide their choice at the ballot box.

Gore told the crowd that many women do not receive even small amounts of money from their husbands, yet the scheme provides them with a regular payment of Rs 1,500. He warned that the benefit might stop if Fadnavis’s government is voted out, adding that they should remember who ensured the money reached their bank accounts.

“Others may offer you cash during elections and you can accept it, but don’t forget the Rs 1,500 that comes every month because of Devabhau,” he said, urging the women to remain “loyal” when they vote. He also joked that even brothers seek permission from their wives before giving money to their sisters during Raksha Bandhan.

The state is set to vote on December 2 to elect 6,859 members and 288 municipal council presidents across 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats. Counting will be held on December 3, with more than 1.07 crore voters eligible to take part.

Gore also took a dig at allies in the Mahayuti coalition, saying that while some partners boast about having control over state finances, the final authority still rests with the BJP.
