New Delhi: A new video has surfaced showing Venezuela's deposed President Nicolas Maduro being taken to the US drug agency office, after landing in New York. He was captured after an airstrike by US forces on the capital Caracas and several other cities of Venezuela. The new video released by the White House, showed Maduro handcuffed and being accompanied by officials of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) inside the agency's office in New York.
The White House's account Rapid Response 47, posted a video showing the fallen Venezuela leader inside the DEA office in lower Manhattan in New York. He was also shown having a 'prep talk' with the law enforcement officials.
The video showed the deposed Venezuelan leader handcuffed and dressed in a black-coloured sweatshirt. The 63-year-old was walking accompanied by law enforcement officers and was seen speaking to one of the officials. The man was also heard saying "good night" and "Happy New Year" to the officials after he reached the room where he would be kept, before his trial.
After landing in the US, Maduro was initially taken to a military base and later shifted to New York. He was seen being taken to the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn.
According to reports, the Venezuelan leader was captured in a surprise mid night raid by US forces. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores were captured on early Saturday morning as they slept in their house in the Ft Tiuna military compound. Madiro reportedly tried to escape to his steel strong room, but US forces managed to restrain him.
The US had codenamed the mission to capture him, 'Operation Absolute Resolve'. It involved officers from the elite US troops, including the Army's Delta Force. They took around 30 minutes to capture Maduro and put him in a helicopter, eyes covered and handcuffed.
Authorities confirmed that no US soldiers were killed in the entire operation. Maduro and his wife have been charged with "narco-terrorism," importing tons of cocaine into the United States, and possession of illegal weapons.
