How a Japanese manga predicted a 'catastrophic event' in July as earthquake of 8.8 magnitude sends tsunami warning

A powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering tsunami warnings across the Pacific. Japan's Hokkaido experienced a 40cm tsunami, causing transport disruptions and evacuations. The US also issued a tsunami alert.

New Delhi: On Wednesday morning, a destructive earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale struck Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

The earthquake is the strongest since 1952 and has resulted in a tsunami in Japan’s Hokkaido and Russia’s Kuril Islands. Additionally, a tsunami alert has been issued in the US. As per the Japan Meteorological Agency, a 40-centimetre (1.3 feet) tsunami was recorded in Tokachi, located on the southern shore of Hokkaido, the northernmost main island in Japan.

The transport links in Japan have been disrupted, and ferry services between Hokkaido and Aomori were suspended. Also, the Sendai airport runway was closed temporarily, and some local trains were delayed or halted. Over 1.9 million people in the country were advised to relocate to safer areas as tsunami waves reached various parts of the coastline.

Did a Japanese Manga predict the tsunami?

Yes, there is indeed a Japanese Manga which predicted that there would be a tsunami in Japan. Notably, the country has always been vulnerable to earthquakes and tsunamis as it is situated along the circum-Pacific seismic belt, which is commonly called the "Ring of Fire", encircling the Pacific Ocean and around 81 per cent of the world's largest earthquakes take place because of that.

Ryo Tatsuki created the Manga 'The Future I Saw' which was first published on July 1, 1999. The reprinted full version was published on October 1, 2021, and the version with extra diaries by the author was released on April 1, 2022. The book is a set of manga of Tatsuki's dreams as per her diary.

The manga predicted the occurrence of a catastrophic event striking Japan this summer. As per a CNN report, the manga's newer edition has a prediction that a crack would happen under the seabed between Japan and the Philippines, and it would trigger massive waves ashore.

Notably, Tatsuki is also said to have predicted in 'The Future I Saw' about the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, which led to the death of around 20,000 people and also resulted in the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Also, she reportedly predicted the deaths of Freddie Mercury and Princess Diana, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.
