Washington DC: An Indian man took to social media after he was taken aback by the cultural difference in the US. The man claimed that no one reacted when a house in his neighbourhood caught on fire. The video sparked varied reactions.
An Instagram user named Nitish Advitiy shared the video on his Instagram page. The video opened with a text overlay that read "In the US, neighbours don’t care about each other.” Further, the man explained that a house in his neighbourhood caught on fire. Unlike India, the residents didn't hurry out of their houses and crowd around. According to the man, they did not even step out to enquire about the well-being of those living in the house. Nitish also added that the fire department immediately responded and came to their rescue.

The clip was captioned in Hindi. It translated it, "I know people will abuse me, but I am telling the truth. If neighbours don’t help each other, then what is the point of a neighbourhood?"
The video garnered mixed reactions online. While some spoke of the advantages of living among nonchalant people, others shared Nitish's perceptive. "One big reason why many like to live in such places is because of privacy. Unlike in India, where everyone likes to poke their nose into others' lives," said one netizen. Another commented, "That's called giving personal space reason..."
Netizens also highlighted the efficiency of public services, which adds to the mental ease of people.
One stated, "The only reason neighbours are not concerned because they are confident that the fire department will handle the situation with ease!" Another netizen said that people in many other cultures also behaved in a similar manner.
Meanwhile, some took jibes at the man. One asked him what he did after coming out of his house, other than make a video.
