A woman from Michigan has gone viral on Instagram after sharing a video of herself building an ant farm for her children. She used 50 live ants she ordered from Amazon.
The unusual clip was posted by Amanda Vernaci (@comestayawhile), a content creator and mother. In the caption, she wrote: "Did you know you can buy ants on Amazon… yes, you read that correctly. Please enjoy this video of me trying to get my ants into their new home.”
The reel shows her struggling to transfer the ants into their enclosure as they try to escape. She also mentions that she already had five local ants and was simply adding the new ones to join them.
The video, uploaded on July 23, 2025, quickly gained traction. It has received over 25,000 likes and hundreds of comments, with many people expressing shock, amusement and concern.
Instagram users were particularly surprised that live ants could be delivered like normal packages. "My 4-year-old just made me watch this 20 times and all she did was laugh and laugh,” commented one person.
Others were a bit more sceptical. One viewer wrote, "The new ants are 100% going to dismember your local ants. Actually the quickest way to get ant colonies out of your yard is to dump another colony on top and let them go to war.”
Some raised concerns about animal welfare. One Instagram user commented, "That’s animal cruelty, there are thousands of free videos of ant care on YouTube. Using your brain is free.”
