This man’s burp is louder than an electric drill, wins Guinness World Record
Neville Sharp, from Australia, has set the Guinness World Record for the loudest burp at 112.4 dB, breaking a 12-year-old record. His burp beat a 12-year-old record and was louder than a trombone!
An Australian man holds one of the strangest Guinness World Record — the loudest burp. Neville Sharp, from Darwin, Northern Territory, unleashed an ear-splitting burp measuring 112.4 decibels (dB) on July 29, 2021. That’s louder than a trombone or an electric drill!
His record-breaking burp shattered the previous mark of 109.9 dB, which had been held for over a decade by Paul Hunn (UK).
Neville’s journey to becoming a Guinness World Record holder began when he was just six years old. His older sister, Sandie Sharp Hunt, taught him how to burp on command. Over the next 45 years, he honed his skill, turning it into an art form.
But it was his wife, KP, who convinced him to take his talent seriously. She coached him for over ten years, urging him to attempt the record. Neville spent five years training to increase the power and volume of his burps.
One of his biggest challenges was arranging the specialised equipment needed to measure the sound level correctly. The record attempt had to be conducted in a soundproofed studio to ensure accuracy.
After securing the record, Neville was ecstatic. "My reason for attempting to break this record was to be a world record holder. The secondary reason was because the world record has been held by an Englishman for over 10 years” he joked.
His burp beat Paul Hunn’s record, which had stood since 2009. Paul originally set the record in 2004 with a burp of 104.9 dB before breaking his own record years later.
The record for the loudest burp (female) belongs to Elisa Cagnoni (Italy), who hit 107.0 dB at the Hard Rock Beer Festival in 2009.
