Trump invites PM Modi to join Gazas Board Of Peace to oversee governance, reconstruction

New Delhi: In a development that may signal India's rising respect in the global arena, US President Donald Trump has reportedly invited India to be a part of his 'Board of Peace' to oversee governance and reconstruction in Gaza.

According to reports, President Trump has invited PM Modi to be part of the Board of Peace. It is an ambitious international body that will be formed for Gaza's reconstruction and transitional governance after ceasefire has halted more than two years of conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Notably, Trump on January 15 announced the formation of a Gaza "board of peace". In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, "It is my Great Honor to announce that THE BOARD OF PEACE has been formed. The Members of the Board will be announced shortly, but I can say with certainty that it is the Greatest and Most Prestigious Board ever assembled at any time, any place. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

In a separate post on the platform, he announced the "next phase of Gaza’s 20-Point Peace Plan". He wrote, "Since the Ceasefire, my team has helped deliver RECORD LEVELS of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza, reaching Civilians at HISTORIC speed and scale. Even the United Nations has acknowledged this achievement as UNPRECEDENTED. These results have set the stage for this next phase."

What will the Board of Peace do?

According to a statement by the White House, "The Board of Peace will play an essential role in fulfilling all 20 points of the President’s plan, providing strategic oversight, mobilizing international resources, and ensuring accountability as Gaza transitions from conflict to peace and development."

It added that "to operationalize the Board of Peace’s vision, under the chairmanship of President Donald Trump, a founding Executive Board has been formed, composed of leaders with experience across diplomacy, development, infrastructure, and economic strategy." The appointed members included US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, and president of the World Bank, Ajay Banga.
