New Delhi: US President Donald Trump shared a fabricated image on social media, portraying himself as the “Acting President of Venezuela”. The post comes days after the US captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
Following the capture, Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as the interim president of the country. Trump’s Truth Social post reflects global concern over what may unfold in the coming days.
Sharing the post on Truth Social, Trump uploaded a morphed image resembling Wikipedia’s official page. Trump’s image appeared above a designation that read “Acting President of Venezuela”.
Furthermore, Trump also joked about Marco Rubio being the President of Cuba. He shared a post making such claims with the caption, “Sounds good to me.”
A few days ago, the US carried out strikes against Venezuela, capturing its president and his wife. Following this, the US president declared that America would “run Venezuela” until the situation is under control. “We can’t take a chance that someone else takes over Venezuela who doesn’t have the interests of Venezuelans in mind,” Trump added.
Donald Trump further asserted that the interim authorities in Venezuela would turn over between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil, which would then be sold at market prices.
