5 Ford Cars That We Miss In India
Ford used to be quite popular between the enthusiasts and unfortunately, it exited Indian in 2021. Here are 5 Ford cars that we miss in India.
Ford was one of the most loved enthusiast brands in India. Not only did they appeal to the enthusiasts, but they became value for money as well, changing their perception from being a brand which had very high maintenance to a brand which offered very affordable and one of the best services in the Indian market.
All of it changed in 2021 when Ford decided to leave India owing to heavy losses. All of their cars were discontinued, and some of the most fun to drive and capable vehicles were not on sale anymore. Here are 5 Ford cars that we miss in India.
The Ford Fiesta was sold in India in only a sedan form, but it was one of the best driver's car in the segment. The original Fiesta was quite popular, and it even had a very sporty S version. It was launched with both petrol and diesel engines, the latter of which was extremely efficient.
The facelift came with all the tech, but unfortunately, it could not take on the market like the first-generation car. It too came with both petrol and diesel engines, and it was a joy to drive. The Fiesta will forever be missed, but there are still a lot of them in good condition, which can be had used.
The Ford Ecosport was the brand's highest-selling car in India. It started a revolution in the Indian car market. The sub-4m SUV segment is currently one of the most popular segments here, and the Ecosport showed everyone how it is done. All the other manufacturers followed suit. The Ecosport had multiple petrol and diesel engine options, and it was also the first sub-4m SUV to offer a turbo-petrol engine option. The Ecosport was efficient, loaded with features, cheap to run and incredibly fun to drive.
The Ford Endeavour is still missed by off-road enthusiasts to this day. The earlier models were essentially pick-up trucks, which were being offered with 7 seats. The Endeavour later became quite luxurious, and the competition cannot catch up to it to this day. The Endeavour had a brilliant ride quality, was fairly capable and was also loaded with a lot of features. It was also offered with a number of diesel engines, and it was priced very aggressively in the Indian market.
The Ford Figo is what fixed the image of the American brand in India. Ford was mostly known for brilliant driver’s cars and very expensive servicing but the Figo was affordable to buy and to maintain. It was pretty efficient and gave the customers what they wanted. Ford did not compromise on the fun part and it was a joy to drive. The first generation car sold in large numbers and fixed a crumbling company. The later generation was again a fun-to-drive car offered with a good selection of petrol and diesel engines but it could not garner the same interest. SUVs were slowly taking over and hatchbacks were losing ground, which meant that the Figo slowly lost its popularity. It was still fun, though and these cars are extremely affordable in the used market.
The Ford Mustang was the car which defined the market. Ford only sold one generation of the Mustang with the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine, and it was launched at a brilliant price. One could not get a better deal on a sports car in India. After Ford shut shops, the Mustangs held their value quite well and some were even being sold for over the actual price of the car.
Since Ford’s exit, there have been various rumours that Ford will come back to the Indian market, focusing more on their premium products. They are still judging the market, and they plan to bring in the Ford Everest and the Mustang here via the CBU route. There is no word as to when they will come back, but we do hope that they bring their international models here.
