New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz have officially given a preview of the GLC EV, which is being called GLC with EQ Technology and will make its full debut at the Munich Motor Show on September 7th. Though most of the design elements remain unknown, Mercedes-Benz have shown the new grille design that will be making its debut with the GLC EV, looking for how the carmaker’s future line-up of electric cars will look.
The new GLC EV, which is almost a successor of the EQC will come with a bold upright illuminated grille that is much different from the minimalist and smooth fascias which is seen on the current crop of Mercedes-Benz EQ models Further it also draws inspiration from the design of the 1902 Mercedes-Benz Simplex and even the 600 Pullman and W 108, the GLC EV’s new grille coming with thick chrome surround and matrix of 942 blacklit LED pixels, that will have the ability of displaying animated.
In the centre of the grille is a large illuminated Mercedes-Benz tri-star logo, which, according to the market regulation, the emblem will light up. A non-illuminated version with smoky white plastic squares will also be available as an option for a more subtle look. What is also clear is that the GLC EV gets angled LED headlights in what seems to have a smoked effect, along with dark grey trim which surrounds the intakes on the bumper.
Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ features
The interior will be coming with a new variation of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Hyperscreen, which features a wide curved display that seamlessly merges the instrument cluster, infotainment and HVAC controls as well. Currently, the MBUX Hyperscreen is available in the EQS and EQE, though the GLC will have an upgraded version which will have much crisper visuals, better response and smoother animation.
The GLC EV will mark the first step in Mercedes-Benz’s move from the standalone EQ nameplates. Instead, the carmaker will combine the EVs directly into the core lineup with ancillary EQ branding, as is being hinted by the G 580 with EQ Technology. The absorption will be both ways, with the ICE models being updated to the new EV design element, which gives it consistency across the portfolio.
