Porsche unveils the most powerful 911 Turbo S ever
Porsche have unveiled the 911 Turbo S with 701 bhp and 800 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful road-legal 911 yet, more powerful than the previous GT2 RS, which had a power of 691 bhp.
New Delhi: Last year, the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS gained more power with fewer emissions by adopting a turbocharged engine. That is exactly what the Turbos have been doing as well, and the result is quite astounding. Coming with 701 bhp, the 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S, debuting in the Munich Motor Show, has a 0-100 kph time of 2.4 seconds and is 14 seconds faster around the Nurburgring than its previous iteration.
The new 992.2 Turbo S basically has the same "T-Hybrid” system as the Carrera GTS. It comes with a 1.9 kWh, 400-volt lithium-ion battery in the rear, positioned at the same location as the 12-volt battery in non-hybrid 911s. An electric motor is placed between the engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission.
However, instead of the GTS, which comes with a new 3.6-litre flat-six with a single electric turbocharger, the Turbo S comes with twin electric turbochargers.
The electric turbochargers have a motor on the shaft linking the turbine and the compressor, and they can spool up the turbo almost instantaneously. The motors also don’t require the wastegate. Instead of braking the turbo, and harvesting that otherwise-wasted energy, which either goes back into the battery or gets directed to the traction motor.
It is the same motor that Porsche has employed in the GTS turbocharger; however, the turbine and compressor wheels in the Turbo S are slightly smaller.
Porsche 911 Turbo S powertrain
The total system output is approximately 701 bhp and 800 Nm of torque, coming with a 61 bhp surge over the previous iteration, with the torque remaining unchanged. This means that the Turbo S is the most powerful road-legal 911 yet, more powerful than the previous GT2 RS, which had a power of 691 bhp.
The Turbo S comes with all-wheel drive as standard, like before, and the new model comes with the latest version of Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), adjustable anti-roll bars, which function off the 400-volt system for a faster response.
As standard, the Turbo S comes with carbon-ceramic brakes with 16.5-inch discs on the front and a 16.1-inch disc at the back with new pad material. There’s even a new sports exhaust with a titanium muffler and exhaust tips as standard.
The new Turbo S comes with slightly wider rear tyres, and like the Carrera GTS, the increase in width is primarily due to the rear weight increase resulting from the hybrid system. The Turbo S comes with wider fenders like the previous 911 Turbo editions.
The new version has some aero changes as well. The active grille shutters in the front can open up while cooling is required and shut to improve drag. There is also an active front diffuser to work together with the deployable splitter and rear wing. Porsche have said the improvement makes for 10 per cent in drag coefficient reduction with the aero in placed in more efficient setting.
It stands out both in the exterior and interior accents in Turbonite, a new brown and grey shade that Porsche made Turbo models. Even though it is equipped quite well in standard variation, it is a Porsche that can be customised quite heavily.
