Supercar Sunday: The phantom of Aston Martin Vanquish

Aston Martin, for their 2025 Vanquish, have given it more power and style, to justify the name tag that it comes bearing. The new Vaquish, with 5.2-litre V12 is the fastest production version of an Aston Martin.

New Delhi: If cars were actors in movies, then Aston Martin would have a status as popular as Sean Connery. Aston Martins have redefined car styling throughout their existence and redefined cars in movies as well. As a sidekick to one of the most famous spies in the world, the Aston Martin had the James Bond suave and rougishness in their appearance.

To adorn the Aston Martin badge is a task in itself, and to wear the Vanquish badge is an automotive masterclass. The 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish comes with a V12 and replaces the DBS. The Vanquish name was reserved for the top-of-the-line GT, and the new one definitely sits at the top of the bank.

Design-wise, the new Vanquish takes the best bits from the Aston Martin book and hence reflects the British car maker’s heritage. The front end is much like the DB12 and comes with a very aggressive look. It gets the angled hood vents and sharp lines going through the side that is able to mask the bulk.

The side vents are massive, and the Vanquish comes with 21-inch forged alloy wheels, which are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres, designed just for this car. Further, it gets carbon ceramic brakes as standard. In fact, to make it light, Aston Martin have given a lot of carbon fibre.

At the back, it is a new story as well, as it has the Vulcan imprinted with the LEDs surrounding the back panel. The beautifully sculpted shape of the car is integrated with the rear ducktail spoiler. It comes with a purposeful diffuser and four big exhaust tips, and all of this makes it appear both aggressive and the classy.

On the inside, it comes with Aston Martin’s usual offerings, like the 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 10.25-inch infotainment. The physical buttons are mostly for the important commands to cover and merge well with the giant screen. What Aston Martin have done is load it with technology and yet not irritate, a point most modern car makers can take a note from.

It is a two-seater, so the coupe vibe is very much apparent. The cabin is full of amazing leather and Alcantara. It also has a 15-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system, and Aston Martin lets you customise a lot of the inside according to your wishes. The glass roof is standard, with a carbon fibre roof being an option as well.

Aston Martin have given it a 5.2-litre V12 engine, and while it may not appear appropriate for the times, it is just what every car lover wishes to hear. It is a completely new block, heads and turbos, and therefore it is like nothing from the previous Aston Martins.

The Vanquish makes 824 bhp and makes a torque of 1000 Nm, with the power going to the back wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an electronically controlled, limited-slip differential. The V12 makes the Vanquish go 0-100 kph in just 3.2 seconds, and it can take it to 344 kph. That makes it the highest top speed any production Aston Martin has ever gotten.

It comes with Bilsten DTX dampers, thicker anti-roll bars, a carbon fibre propshaft and a much less controlling stability program. The control system has eight levels of interventions, and to keep the fun alive, it can be switched off completely.

In every sense then, what Aston Martin have done is prolonged the life of V12 and rebrought a badge of honour that was being looked at with a fond nostalgia until recent times. In India, it was launched earlier this year and comes at a whopping starting price of Rs 8.85 crore. It is an advantage to be as quick as an Aston Martin because, by its image, it needs to look stealth and aggressive, and the Vanquish does pretty well.
