Bengaluru: A woman from Bengaluru shared how she was forced to quit her job due to the mental harassment at her workplace. She shared her experience with Redditors, and they were quick to resonate with her. Many shared similar experiences in the comment section.

In the post, the woman introduced herself as a 25-year-old who worked as a Product Experience Manager at a “major startup”. She claimed she decided to call it quits after she was subjected to months of mental harassment.  “I recently put in my papers after months of going through mental harassment at work,” wrote the woman on the networking site. She added that other members of her team also left the company for the same reason.

Despite patiently holding to her job, the woman eventually realised that she had to prioritise her mental health. As a result, she decided to leave her job without a backup plan in place. "Right now, I’ve given myself about 4 months to find a new role, and I’m looking for opportunities in customer experience, operations or product consulting roles, preferably something remote or hybrid," said the woman.

The post ignited a conversation about mental health and toxic work culture in India. While some opined that a toxic work environment has seemingly become a norm in the country, others shared their personal work experiences. "I am also facing harassment at an elevated level. But I am determined to fight," wrote one.

Another commented, "Looks like bad work culture is a norm in Indian startups. Founders burning investor money and expecting 1 person to do 3 people’s work to compensate for that."

Some asked the woman to elaborate on the mental harassment she was facing at her work to bring awareness to others.
