Bengaluru is implementing strict New Year's Eve restrictions, including widespread traffic curbs in CBD, Koramangala, and Indiranagar. Flyovers are closed to two-wheelers, and security is heightened with drones and increased patrols.
New Delhi: Bengaluru is gearing up to celebrate New Year's Eve, and there will be restrictions in several parts of the city as announced by the traffic police.
There will be restrictions across the Central Business District (CBD), Koramangala, and Indiranagar to keep the rush on New Year's Eve under control. Some important roads will be closed to private vehicles from 8 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1.
Security increased in Bengaluru
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that all 50 flyovers in the city, except the airport flyover, will be closed to two-wheelers from 11 pm on December 31 to 6 am the next morning. Bengaluru Police have increased security in the city with 10 drones, 249 Cobra patrol vehicles, 400 traffic wardens, four central rooms, 164 women help desks, 55 ambulances, women's cab and auto drivers for female commuters, among other measures.
Traffic restrictions in the city
The CBD, especially Brigade Road and MG Road, will remain open only to pedestrians, and no vehicles can enter the MG Road between 8 pm and 2 am. Prohibition will also be there on the Brigade Road, Church Street, Rest House Road, and Museum Road. From 4 pm, one cannot park vehicles on these roads.
In Koramangala, Y D Math Road, there will be traffic restrictions up to Microland Junction and connecting side roads like JNC Road and 17th H Main. In Indiranagar and ITPL, there will be traffic restrictions on both sides of 100 Feet Road, and nobody can park vehicles on the 12th Main Road. Also, parking is not allowed on Batarayanapura Service Road and Dr Rajkumar Road. People have been urged to use public transport like the Namma Metro and BMTC. There will be 166 identified points to check for drunk driving.
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will extend their services. Also, hospitals have geared up for emergency services on this day.
