Man killed due to criminal history, violent behaviour: Police
According to reports, the victim Dhanraj had a criminal behaviour and was known to show violence at times. His 28-year-old elder brother, Shivaraj was tired of this behaviour and decided to get rid of him. He hired killers to execute the crime. The brothers used to reside in Kalaburagi district, said police officials.
Shivaraj is a cab driver and he planned the murder with 2 of his friends. The 2 other killers have been identified as 24-year-old Sandeep and 26-year-old Prashanth.
When police started investigating the murder and questioned Shivaraj, he said that his brother Dhanraj used to stay with their parents in their home district. He told them that his younger brother was involved in several thefts, was in the habit of drinking and picked up fights frequently.
According to the elder brother, Dhanraj often used to assault their elderly parents and when he used to question him or reprimand him for it, even Shivaraj was assaulted.
The neighbours of the family used to complain quite often to the men's parents, that Dhanraj had stolen mobile phones or other articles from their house.
Unable to bear this continuous complaint against his brother and also his behaviour, Shivaraj called him to Bengaluru on the pretext of getting him a job. But he had already secretly planned to murder him, said the police.
Dhanraj came to Bengaluru on November 2 and was picked up by his brother, Shivaraj in his taxi, from Bannerghatta-NICE Road. The 2 other accused, Sandeep and Prashanth were also in the car, sitting in the back seat. Dhanraj was in the front passenger seat.
Sandeep and Prashanth grabbed Dharaj from behind as the car started moving. His brother Shivaraj then struck him on the neck with a machete, killing him on the spot, inside the vehicle.
The trio then threw his body along the Bannerghatta–Kaggalipura road. They then disposed off the weapon (machete) and the car's floor mat near the Electronic City-NICE Road.
CCTV footage nailed accused
The dead body was discovered on November 6 in a decomposed state. Police were initially treating it as a natural death. But CCTV footage from a nearby building changed the course of the investigation.
The CCTV footage showed a car stopping near the area and 3 people throwing the body on the road and speeding off. The police traced the car, through its number plate and the Bannerghatta police arrested all the three accused. All of them have been sent to judicial custody and a murder case filed in the matter.
