New Delhi: A 21-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after jumping from the fourth floor of a hotel, moments after the police were called to address a nuisance inside the premises. The incident occurred on Sunday at a hotel in AECS Layout, Kudahalli in Bengaluru.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. She is a BBA graduate and works with a private company. The incident has triggered multiple allegations, including videography and demand for bribes, which allegedly drove the woman to take the extreme step.

The incident dates back to Saturday, when a group of youths checked into three rooms on the fourth floor of the hotel. According to reports, the group consumed alcohol, played loud music, and partied through the night. On Sunday night, they reportedly stepped onto the balcony and began shouting, prompting an annoyed hotel guest to alert the police about the disturbance.

What happened in the hotel room?

Following the complaint, a Hoysala patrol vehicle from the HAL police station arrived at the hotel. The police initiated routine procedures and began questioning the group. One of the officers was recording the interaction using a body-worn camera. According to police accounts, the injured woman entered the room, noticed the camera, panicked, ran out, and jumped from the balcony.

She fell onto the iron grills of a neighbouring building, sustaining severe injuries. The police, along with her friends, rushed her to a hospital, from where she was later referred to another medical facility.

Why are the friends blaming cops?

One of the woman’s friends alleged that personnel from the HAL police station demanded a bribe in exchange for issuing a clean chit. He claimed the officers forcefully entered the rooms and began recording the conversation, insisting on a cash payment instead of UPI. The friend alleged that the situation caused the woman to panic, leading to the jump.

The police have denied all allegations. However, an officer stated that videography is mandatory during Hoysala patrol responses. The police added that if there has been any misinterpretation, the footage would be reviewed and appropriate action taken, the Times of India (TOI) reported.

Complaint registered

Meanwhile, the woman’s father has filed a complaint against the hotel authorities, alleging negligence in ensuring guest safety. He has also named her friends, the police personnel, and hotel staff present at the scene. A case has been registered under BNS Section 125(b), and further investigation is underway.
