Prison warden held for attempting to sneak drugs into Bengaluru Central Jail: Report

New Delhi: A warden at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison was arrested for allegedly attempting to sneak prohibited items into the jail premises. Initial findings suggest that the accused, identified as Rahul Patil, had concealed the items inside his undergarments while entering the prison.
Reports say the prison staffer was caught red-handed at the main gate around 6:50 pm on Friday after security personnel grew suspicious. An officer from the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) noticed Patil’s uneasy behaviour, and when he tried to pass through the metal detector, it repeatedly went off, prompting a thorough check.
How ironic can life be?
During the inspection, the officer recovered two packets of cigarettes along with 60 grams of a thin, paper-like narcotic substance allegedly hidden in Patil’s clothing.

Investigations underway
Prison Superintendent Paramesh filed an official complaint against Patil. He has been booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as well as the Karnataka Prisons Act, 1963.
The incident comes at a time when prison authorities are already under intense scrutiny for misconduct involving their own personnel. The episode has prompted State Police Chief M.A. Saleem to issue yet another circular—his second in two months—laying out stricter guidelines to prevent such breaches within the force.
