Bangalore Metro's Yellow Line is plagued by BMRCL's confusing station name changes. Passengers face significant annoyance and extra travel due to stations like Rupena Agrahara being renamed Bommanahalli, and Electronic City being swapped with Konappana Agrahara.
New Delhi: The passengers are in a state of shock due to the mishap caused by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). There is a Yellow Line Metro station in Rupena Agrahara, but now it has been named Bommanahalli.
The name change and annoyance
The distance between Bommanahalli and Rupena Agrahara is one kilometre, and the change of name is causing constant annoyance to people. Passengers who get off at Bommanahalli later find out that it is Rupena Agrahara. Thus, there is a dire situation of having to travel by car again. Residents are demanding that the name Rupena Agrahara be added to Bommanahalli, and have expressed their anger by saying that they will go on a hunger strike if it is not added.
What's in a name?
There is a metro station in Bommanahalli too, and the authorities have named it Hongasandra, which is two or three kilometres away. Yet, they have named Bommanahalli Hongasandra. There is also confusion over the names of four metro stations on the Yellow Line. BMRCL has also created confusion at Electronic City and Konappana Agrahara stations.
No shortage of confusion
A station has been built in Electronic City and is named after Konappana Agrahara. Passengers are expressing outrage that the station in Konappana Agrahara has been renamed Electronic City. The locals have warned that they will continue their protest if the confusion over the name of the station is not resolved soon. There is widespread opinion that it would be appropriate to re-examine the names of BMRCL stations for the benefit of passengers.
