Greater Noida: The Uttar Pradesh government has accelerated work on a key greenfield expressway linking the Ganga Expressway with the upcoming Noida International Airport, as preparations intensify for the airport’s inauguration later this year.

Both the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) have been instructed to fast-track connectivity projects to ensure seamless multi-modal access between the airport and major towns across Delhi–NCR.

The new 74-kilometre expressway is being developed to handle the anticipated surge in passenger and cargo movement once commercial operations begin at the Jewar airport. Senior officials said the state government is pushing to deliver efficient, uninterrupted connectivity for commuters and industries, particularly those spread across western Uttar Pradesh.

A high-level meeting held on Thursday brought together UPEIDA’s additional chief executive officer SP Shahi, Yeida chief executive RK Singh and other senior officers to examine the proposed alignment of the 20-kilometre portion falling within Yeida’s jurisdiction.

Officials reviewed critical design elements such as underpasses, access points, entry and exit locations, and integration with existing and planned infrastructure. The alignment has now reached its finalisation stage, following which detailed engineering and design work will commence.

Planned as a 120-metre-wide expressway, the link road will start at the 24-kilometre mark of the Yamuna Expressway near Film City and extend to the 44.3-kilometre point of the Ganga Expressway near Syana in Bulandshahr district. Of the total stretch, around 20 kilometres lie within Yeida limits while the remainder falls in Bulandshahr.

Major link between Western UP & Jewar Airport

The corridor is intended to provide a direct, high-speed route for commuters travelling from western Uttar Pradesh districts such as Meerut, Bulandshahr, Khurja and Syana to the new international airport. With Yeida’s sector development, industrial allotments and basic infrastructure expanding at pace, planners have been examining ways to align the new expressway with the region’s evolving land-use framework.

Once operational, the expressway is expected to significantly cut travel time between the Ganga Expressway and Noida Airport, easing traffic on existing corridors and boosting freight movement for industries located along the route. Officials anticipate that the link will enhance regional mobility by joining several major highways and interchanges, providing smoother access for both passengers and logistics operators.

According to UPEIDA estimates, constructing such expressways typically costs around Rs 60 crore per kilometre, excluding land acquisition expenses. The authorities maintain that advancing the project swiftly is central to the broader connectivity plan designed to support the airport’s role as a major economic and transport hub for northern India.
