New Delhi: Delhi’s daily commuters are set to notice significant changes on their metro routes, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announcing the renaming of three stations — Pitampura, Prashant Vihar and Haiderpur Badli Mor. Under the new names, Pitampura Metro Station will be known as Madhuban Chowk, Prashant Vihar has been renamed North Pitampura/Prashant Vihar, and Haiderpur Badli Mor will now appear as Haiderpur Village.
According to the government, the new names aim to better represent local identity and make navigation easier for passengers. With millions of residents, office-goers and students relying on the Delhi Metro every day, officials say the updated names will help reduce confusion and improve clarity, especially for those travelling to or around Pitampura, Prashant Vihar and Haiderpur.
The announcement was made during a welcome ceremony for the Rezangla Shaheed Pavitra Rāj Kalash Yatra in Haiderpur village. Addressing the gathering, CM Rekha Gupta said the decision was taken after considering long-standing demands of local residents and the practical needs of metro passengers. She emphasised that the change goes beyond signage — it reflects community identity, simplifies route planning and makes the expanding metro network more user-friendly.
The government outlined key reasons for the renaming:
• giving stronger visibility to local identity,
• making station locations clearer for passengers,
• respecting the traditional and social character of the area, and
• enhancing comfort for the rapidly growing number of metro users.
Once the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation updates its network, the new names will begin appearing on mobile apps, route planners, station boards and announcements. Officials acknowledge that passengers may face some confusion initially, but believe commuters will adapt quickly within a few weeks.
