Initial findings suggest the argument began when the car driver allegedly refused to give way to the bus on a one-way road. The situation escalated quickly, turning violent after the car driver called his relatives, leading to a physical confrontation.

Police have identified all four accused and arrested one of them. Efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects.

Who is accountable?

The investigation revealed that the incident occurred around 11 pm on Saturday outside a banquet hall, after a dispute broke out between the DTC driver and the car driver. The bus driver, identified as Vikas, reportedly asked for passage on a road blocked by a wedding procession. The car driver refused and called his relatives during the argument.

The group assaulted Vikas, and when a bystander named Suraj tried to intervene, he too suffered serious injuries. Both injured men were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Due to his worsening condition, Vikas was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday morning, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Rajiv Ranjan said.

Union demanded for Rs 1 crore compensation

The unfortunate incident triggered a massive protest by DTC employees on the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), demanding justice for Vikas. They have also sought a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the deceased’s family and strict punishment for all those involved.
