‘He was constantly humiliated’: Father, friends say Class 10 boy killed himself after teachers' harassment

According to his father, Pratik Patil, Shaurya had been struggling emotionally for several months, often returning home shaken by what he described as repeated humiliation at school. His friends later told the family that he had grown unusually quiet in recent weeks. They said he frequently mentioned being singled out and scolded in front of his classmates and had gradually withdrawn from activities he once took part in enthusiastically.

Police said further action will be taken based on forensic findings and statements of those involved.

New Delhi: A Class 10 student of Delhi’s St. Columba’s School died by suicide after allegedly facing sustained harassment by his teachers, according to an emotional note recovered from his school bag. The 16-year-old, identified as Shaurya Patil, wrote that three teachers were responsible for “breaking him” and urged his parents to ensure action so that “no other child suffers” the way he did.

Shaurya, originally from Maharashtra’s Sangli district, also apologised to his mother and expressed a wish to donate his organs.

Claims of harassment

His father Pratik Patil said Shaurya had been distressed for months and repeatedly spoke about being humiliated at school. “During a dance rehearsal, he slipped and fell. Instead of helping him, the teacher said, ‘Cry as much as you want, it doesn’t matter to me.’ Another teacher even pushed him once,” the father alleged, adding that school authorities ignored their complaints.

Friends of the teenager told the family that Shaurya had been withdrawn and visibly upset over the past few weeks. They said he often spoke about being singled out and scolded in front of classmates and that he had stopped participating in school activities he once enjoyed.

Police action begins

The 16-year-old jumped from Platform 2 of Rajendra Place Metro Station on Wednesday. Police recovered his bag, books and the hand-written suicide note from the scene.

After the incident, Delhi Police registered an FIR and sent the note for forensic examination. Investigators have begun questioning the teachers named in the note as well as members of the school administration. The school has not issued any official statement so far.

Family demands strict action

The family, currently in their native village in Sangli, said Shaurya had been under severe stress for at least five months and that repeated scolding, insults and alleged threats from teachers had pushed him into depression. They are demanding strict action against those responsible.

Police said further action will be taken based on forensic findings and statements of those involved.
