Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Saturday took on her critiques. She said that some videos of her where she was seen mispronouncing certain words like AQI are deliberately being circulated by the Opposition, She accused them of disrespecting her and said that she had made mistakes, but the previous government had done certain things deliberately. She was speaking in the Delhi Assembly during a discussion on the 'Motion of Thanks' to Address given by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched a scathing attack on those who mocked her for mispronouncing AOI as AIQ. She claimed that some people (read Opposition) cannot tolerate a "woman Cm working 24X7" and accused them of disrespecting her. She was participating in a discussion on the 'Motion of Thanks' to Address given by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena during the Winter Session of Delhi Assembly.
Baseless allegations made against me: Rekha Gupta
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that "baseless allegations" were made against her and she was made fun of for inadvertently mispronouncing some words. She said, "They make fun of the words I accidentally utter. Anyone can make mistakes while speaking or mispronounce certain words. I made a mistake. But you did things deliberately."
The reaction of Gupta inside the Assembly came after she faced heavy trolling for some of her recent utterances in public. She was heavily criticised for mispronouncing AQI as AIQ.
Defending herself, the Delhi CM said that "she had been working day-in and day-out for Delhi. And that’s what gets to them. They can’t stand it. They can’t handle it."
She even posted a video of her entire speech on her social media handle.
Compares her government's tenure to AAP's 11 years in office
Gupta however did not stop at just that. She then went on to draw comparisons between her 11-month-old government and the 11 years rule of the Aam Aadmi Party. She termed the AAP's tenure as "11 years of mismanagement and corruption."
She alleged that essential services in Delhi had deteriorated in the last 11 years. She in fact credited her own government for fixing health, education, transport and infrastructure in the national capital. She also highlighted the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Vandana Yojana, digitisation in hospitals, as well as initiatives like Jan Aushadhi Kendras, palna centres for working women as major achievements of her government.
She also talked about how her government had managed to curb the arbitrary practices, mainly fee hikes in private schools.
She alleged that during the previous AAP regime, there were massive irregularities in governance. She talked about problems in hospitals, schools and also water and electricity supply during this time. She said that people of the city faced electricity disruptions and also received inflated water bills, when the AAP government was in power.
