17-year-old girl murdered in Warasiguda, accused arrested

Hyderabad: A 17-year-old girl was murdered by a man for rejecting his marriage proposal, in Warasiguda, Secunderabad on December 8.

The accused Uma Shankar was arrested on Wednesday, December 10, the police said.

Speaking to the media, DCP East Zone Bala Swamy said, “Two days ago, a girl named Pavithra was murdered in Warasiguda. Uma Shankar murdered her because she refused to marry him. He had a drinking habit, which is why her parents refused the marriage proposal. He murdered the teenager while intoxicated.”

The police traced Uma Shankar's whereabouts through CCTV cameras. He was arrested while traveling towards Skandagiri Temple in Chilkalguda.

The police seized Rs 1 lakh in cash, a mobile phone and debit cards from the accused.

Man slits girl’s throat at her home:

Uma Shankar had gone to her home in Bapujinagar and slit her throat in front of her mother and sister while intoxicated and fled the scene.

The victim, along with her parents J Kantha Rao and J Laxmi, had returned from Vijayawada on December 7, a day before her murder. He reportedly went to her house the next day and murdered her for not informing him about going to Vijayawada and for rejecting the proposal.

Speeding car loses control, overturned: 

In a separate incident, five people were gravely injured after their speeding car lost control, overturned and crashed into a road divider in Meerpet Police Station Limits. The wounded were shifted to a nearby hospital. Meerpet Police have registered a case and launched a probe.
