The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in collaboration with Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has linked property tax identification numbers (PTINs) with electricity unique service connections (USCs).
The move is expected to boost revenue generation, plug revenue leakages and improve accountability.
In the first phase, GHMC checked 96,938 PTINs in residential areas and 22,169 records were matched with power connections via door numbers and property owner names.
In many cases, the property tax identification numbers were tied to commercial electricity connections, revealing tax under payment.
GHMC officials said that some property owners have been paying residential tax while using commercial electricity connections. The integration will help in collecting the right tax. Door mapping has helped in determining if the properties were genuinely residential or commercial.
In phase one of the integration, the GHMC mapped
9,761 properties in LB Nagar
26,056 properties in Charminar
Khairatabad – 22,514
Secunderabad - 22,005
Kukatpally – 7,260
Serilingampally – 9,342
The initiative would help in bringing about data transparency and efficiency, GHMC additional commissioner (IT&Revenue) Anurag Jayanthi said.
He also instructed officials to accept applications for advertisements online only while discontinuing offline permits, to promote transparency.
