Hyderabad: Mysamma temple vandalised in Puranapul, suspect arrested
An unidentified miscreant reportedly entered the Puranapul Darwaza Mysamma Temple at around 11.30 PM on Wednesday night to damage a flexi banner and POP idol.
Hyderabad Police have arrested a suspect in Darwaza Mysamma temple vandalism case on Friday, January 16, for reportedly damaging a flexi banner and POP idol at the temple premises, reports said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night, as per tv9 telugu. The cops are questioning the arrested suspect to collect further evidence.
A mob later attacked cops, injuring four police men seriously.
What happened on Wednesday night?
An unidentified miscreant reportedly entered the Puranapul Darwaza Mysamma Temple at around 11.30 PM on Wednesday night and damaged a flexi banner and an idol made of Plaster of Paris (POP), which was placed in the temple veranda.
A case was registered and the police collected CCTV footage from the site of the incident.
Mob vandalises religious structure, attacks cops:
On Thursday, a mob of 300 people in the area gathered to vandalise a religious structure. They also attacked the police who were at the scene, trying to bring the situation under control.
Another case has been registered over the mob attack on the police and the damage to the religious structure. Police said that attackers have been identified by CCTV footage and other video clips that were recorded at the scene.
Police officials appeal for calm:
Rajendra Nagar Deputy Commissioner of Police Yogesh Gautam clarified that the main idol in the temple was not touched or destroyed and that only the POP idol and a flexi banner were partially damaged.
Police officials have asked citizens not to believe false rumours and propaganda related to the incident and warned that strict action will be taken against those who spread fake news online.
Officials have said that the situation in Puranapul is under control and appealed for citizens not to panic and to maintain calm.
Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi visited the site and took stock of the situation. He stated that communal forces are trying to create controversy. "These incidents should not happen. Certain forces belonging to particular party do not want peace. We want a peaceful Hyderabad."
