New Delhi: A woman allegedly killed her 10-month-old son by poisoning him and later died by suicide in Telangana's Hyderabad following a family dispute. The incident took place in Meerpet police station limits in Hastinapuram on Thursday night.
The body of the 27-year-old woman, identified as Sushma, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. The infant was found lying dead near his mother's body on the bed, police said.
According to police, Sushma, a resident of Meerpet, was married to Yashwanth Reddy four years ago. Reddy is a Chartered Accountant (CA) by profession. The couple had a 10-month-old baby, Yashwardhan Reddy. Police suspect that the woman would have given poison to her son before taking her own life. The child also succumbed.
It is reported that disputes between the husband and wife had been ongoing for the past few days. The same morning, Sushma's mother, Lalitha (aged 44), had come to her daughter's house to do some shopping for the child's first birthday.
Sushma's mother was present at house
Sushma, while her mother was present in the house, poisoned her son in another room and then died by suicide by hanging herself, police said. She was allegedly going through some mental stress due to marital discord.
When Sushma's mother saw her daughter and grandson's bodies in the room, she was shattered and tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. She was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment in a critical condition.
Sushma's husband informed police about suicide
When Susham's husband, Reddy, returned home around 9:30 pm, he found the doors locked from the inside. He broke open the doors and went inside, where he saw his wife's and son's bodies and immediately informed the police. The woman’s mother was also found lying unconscious at the scene.
Upon receiving the information, the Meerpet police reached the woman's residence and sent the bodies of Sushma and the child for post-mortem examination. The Meerpet police have registered a case in connection with the incident under relevant sections of law. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the suicide.
