The number of countrywide flight cancellations at various airports reached 400 on Friday including in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and others.

Staff woes, FDTL constraints at IndiGo:

The operational disruptions have reportedly occurred due to cabin crew woes and regulatory Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) constraints. The largest airline in the country has been facing staff shortage and struggling with new pilot rest and duty hour norms, a month after the DGCA implemented them.

The regulator implemented stricter norms from November 1, after complaints of fatigue from cockpit crews across Indian carriers.

The civil aviation ministry and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have been monitoring the developments closely over the last few days. IndiGo reportedly told the DGCA that operations will be restored to normal by February 10, 2026.

On Wednesday, it revealed that the delays and cancellations are due to ‘unforeseen operational challenges’ and apologised to passengers for inconvenience.
