Hyderabad: Ahead of Sankranti festival, Hyderabad Police launched a special drive to crack down on Chinese Manja to prevent tragic accidents and to inform people of the consequences of using Nylon string.
Authorities have seized a large quantity of banned Chinese kite string in the city, which is estimated to be valued at Rs. 1.2 crore. The string was confiscated from shopkeepers who were buying it from Delhi, Surat, and Maharashtra.
Hyderabad Police have taken to their X social media platform to discourage people from buying Chinese manja during the festival.
Hyderabad CP VC Sajjanar in a post on social media said, “Fly kites, don’t cut your necks. People are getting injured by Chinese Manja. Don’t use it.”
Speaking to the media, VC Sajjanar said that the police has formed special teams to curb the illegal manufacture, storage, transport and sale of the nylon string.
“More than 100 cases registered against Chinese manja in Hyderabad Police Commissionerate. 143 people arrested for selling Chinese manja. It is a silent killer that has caused serious injuries and even deaths of pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, birds, and animals,” he said.
