4 killed after driver suffers heart attack, car ploughs into two-wheelers on Thane flyover

New Delhi: At least four people were killed and several injured on Friday evening after a car, whose driver reportedly suffered a heart attack, rammed into multiple two-wheelers on the Ambernath Flyover in Maharashtra's Thane district.

The accident occurred around 7.15 pm on the flyover connecting the eastern and western parts of the town. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle after the cardiac episode, causing the car to veer across the flyover and slam into several two-wheelers. The impact was so severe that one rider was flung off the flyover and landed on the road below.

According to India Today, the car was part of an election campaign and belonged to local political candidate. She was travelling with her aides and her driver, Lakshman Shinde, when he suffered the heart attack. The vehicle reportedly crossed the central divider and hit four to five vehicles before coming to a halt.

Police verifying sequence of events

Locals pulled Chaubey and her aides out of the damaged vehicle and rushed them to a nearby hospital. All three are stated to be stable and under observation.

Driver Lakshman Shinde and two local youths, identified as Sumit Chelani and Shailesh Jadhav, were declared dead at the scene.

Police are verifying the sequence of events and awaiting medical reports to confirm the cause of the crash.
