Mumbai: The State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the dates for elections to 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). As per the schedule, voting will be held on January 15, 2026 from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm. The counting of votes will be held on January 16.
Following the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was enforced on December 15 in all areas falling under the municipal corporations. The BMC election is held to elect corporators who manage the civic body of Mumbai. The BMC is responsible for basic services and infrastructure in India’s largest city.
The civic body polls in Maharashtra are expected mainly between two alliances. The ruling Mahayuti alliance that includes the BJP, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. On the opposition side, the Maha Vikas Aghadi consists of the Congress, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP–SP.
