Mumbai: In a bizarre incident reported from Mumbai, a statue of Goddess Kali was dressed as mother Mary. The incident was reported from a temple in Chembur and it left devotees shocked and also drew the ire of some Hindu organisations.
According to a report in NDTV, when some devotees arrived at the temple to pray, they were left aghast, seeing the statue of Goddess Kaali, dressed as Mother Mary. The devotees were enraged and complained to the temple management regarding the matter. As word spread, some members from a local Hindu outfit also arrived at the temple and created a ruckus.
Soon after the police were called in to restore order.
The police questioned the temple priest regarding the matter. The priest claimed that he had seen a dream in which Goddess Kaali herself appeared and said that she wanted to assume the form of Mother Mary. He said that based on Godesse's wish he had dressed up her statue as Mother Mary.
The devotees meanwhile, continued to protest and claimed that this was a violation of religious beliefs.
Following the hullabaloo, the police filed a complaint in the matter and arrested the priest. He has been identified as Ramesh. The complaint has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the priest has been booked for hurting religious sentiments.
