Mumbai: Police issues traffic advisory ahead of footballer Lionel Messis event at Wankhede Stadium

Mumbai Police issued a traffic advisory ahead of football legend Lionel Messi's arrival in the city. The sportsperson is set to attend an event at the Wankhede Stadium on December 14. Several roads are closed and people have been advised to take public transport. There are also parking restrictions in and around the Wankhede Stadium and also the Brabourne Stadium.

New Delhi: Mumbai Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of footballer Lionel Messi's arrival in the city. The star footballer is set to attend an event at the city's famous Wankhede Stadium on December 14. The traffic police has advised commuters to plan travel well in advance and also warned of heavy traffic in the area.

Road diversions and parking restrictions in several areas: Police

The Mumbai Police in a notification regarding the event said that road diversions and parking restrictions will be implemented near Colaba, Marine Drive and adjoining streets to manage the large crowd efficiently.

The police have also asked people to avoid private transport as much as possible and instead opt for public transport. They appealed to the people to follow restrictions as much as possible so that they can smoothly enjoy the GOAT India Tour 2025.

The Mumbai Police have said that the Wankhede event is expected to draw large crowds and also a significant number of vehicles. They said that in order to avoid any inconvenience, there would be no parking facilities at Wankhede and Brabourne Stadiums. Therefore spectators coming for the event should use public transport.

There would also be temporary parking restrictions on several roads, like "C Road, "D Road, "E Road, "F Road, and "G Road. Apart from this no parking is allowed on NS Road, both the north bound road and south bound, Veer Nariman Road, Dinshaw Vachha Road, and Jamshethji Tata Road. The police are also temporarily suspending pay and park facilities on Veer Nariman Road and Dinshaw Vachha Road, said the notification.

On-way roads

The police have also said that several roads will be one-way on the day of the Messi event. These are D Road, which will be one-way from N.S. Road to "E and "C Road junction. E-Road will be one-way southbound from "D Road to "C Road junction and Veer Nariman Road (southbound) from Churchgate Junction to "E Road", a restricted access road, will remain open for vehicles.

Apart from this, several key routes will be closed. These include Chandra Bose Road from Netaji Subhash Air India Junction to Mafatlal Junction (northbound), Coastal Road from Worli/Tardeo to Marine Drive (southbound) and Coastal Road from Marine Drive to Worli/Tardeo (northbound).

As several roads are being closed, the police have given commuters and vehicle owners a list of alternative routes, which will remain restriction free. These are major routes, including Ramnath Poddar Chowk, Maharshi Karve Road, Opera House, Charni Road, and Marine Lines, reported Mid Day.
