CBSE Class 10, 12 Exams 2026: Board mandates 75% attendance; Check guidelines here
The CBSE has mandated a 75 per cent attendance requirement for classes 10 and 12 to appear for the board exams 2025. It also made internal assessment mandatory for all subjects, aligning with NEP 2020.
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notice regarding the upcoming board examinations. iT has tightened the eligibility criteria for students to appear for the board exams. The rule is clear that students who do not fulfill the prerequisites set by the board will not be eligible to appear for the written exams.
In the notice, the board emphasized that NIOS will provide education through online and distance mode, while CBSE will provide education through face-to-face mode. The Board has mandated 75 per cent attendance for class 10 and class 12 students to appear for annual exams. It also ensured that internal assessment is mandatory for all subjects that aligns with NEP 2020.
75% attendance is mandatory
The Board reiterates the minimum attendance requirement to appear for board exams 2026. Students who have a minimum 75 per cent attendance are only eligible.
Two-year programme is now binding
The Board has made it clear that Class 10 and Class 12 are two-year programmes comprising Class 9 and Class 10 and Class 11 and Class 12, respectively. This means that students who studied all the subjects for 2 years are eligible to appear in the examinations.
No excuse for internal assessment
The internal assessment is an integral part of the assessment as per NEP 2020. All the subjects offered by the CBSE will have an internal assessment. Students who attend the schools cannot complete the internal assessment.
The official notice reads, "In the absence of performance in internal assessment, a student’s result cannot be declared. Such students even if they are regular students will be placed in ‘Essential Repeat Category."
The Board has also emphasized that regular student has offered additional subjects in previous year and has been placed in either ‘Compartment’ or ‘Essential Repeat’ can appear as a private candidate.
